Munch is a restaurant management and online ordering platform. I work across three surfaces: the customer-facing ordering app, the franchise back office that restaurant staff and franchisees run their day from, and the shared component library both of them sit on.

Where I spend my time

  • Shared component library — owning components end to end, from API design through accessibility to release
  • Franchise back office — store configuration, stock, delivery zones, reporting
  • Customer ordering — checkout serviceability, React Server Components state
  • Testing — Storybook at the component level, Playwright for the journeys that carry money

Resume

Frontend developer with two years on a production platform, working in React, TypeScript and Next.js. I own shared components end to end — API design, accessibility, documentation, release — and I'm as comfortable in a franchise back office as I am in a checkout flow. I hold a Diploma in IT in Software Development from IIE Rosebank College, plus certifications from freeCodeCamp and LinkedIn Learning. The short version: I like problems where the correct answer isn't the first one.

My Background

I was born in Frankfort, a small town in the Free State, and spent my early years at my mother's aunt's homestead there before we moved to Ennerdale, in Johannesburg South, when I was three.

That's where technology got hold of me. PC gaming, mostly — Doom, MAME32, Half-Life, The Sims — and somewhere in there I came across programming and thought it was magic. Naturally I wanted to understand the magic, so I enrolled at IIE Rosebank College and graduated with a Diploma in IT in Software Development at 72%.

From there I joined the Software Academy internship at Tshimologong Digital Precinct, sponsored by Samsung, and then moved into frontend work at Munch — where I've spent the last two years on a platform that restaurants actually run their business on. Shipping to people whose revenue depends on your code being right teaches you a particular kind of care.

I'm still doing this for the same reason I started: I like building things, and I like passing on what I learn to whoever follows the same path.

The part of this site that isn't work. I'm still putting it together — it'll cover what I do when I'm not in an editor, and the things outside software that feed back into it.
